INTRODUCTION

Travelling is a joy of relaxation and exploration of new places on a journey. This assignment allows us to build up many qualities like observation skills, critical thinking skills and also exploration. It is to open up our view on many places we have been or have not been before and record it into a journal. Through this assignment, we can be exposed to many mesmerizing places that can be translated into pictures and text.

To introduce the Western and Eastern culture and civilization through an overview of archaeological discoveries, ancient monuments, artworks, philosophy and achievement of great leaders from prehistoric to present.
To show basic skills on enquiry, investigation, application and presentation of relevant information.

OBJECTIVE

PROJECT SCOPE

Part I: Required to do a literature research on places of interest of site visit. From the literature review, study the theme given and its connection between the historical, architectural and social aspects of the place. Documenting the right building, spaces and places with the right content is important in this project.

The travel journal are to include the following elements:-

Historical Aspects
Architectural Aspects
Social Aspects

Part II: To design a graphical expression of any findings in a travel journal. The journal will create awareness and educate your audience on the subject matter or focus of the study. This includes design & layout, purpose, content, writing style, colours and etc.

FINAL OUTCOME

This assignment gave me a first approach to produce a travel journal that we all are not used to. To know how to produce a travel journal, I had to research on examples of travel journal that can be used in my travel journal. It must include the different aspects as stated in the given brief. To conclude the whole travel journal it must include much pictures, texts and creative pasting of scrapbook items.

The video above shows the progress of one e-tutorial that has been conducted on the web. It explains my progress a week before the submission date.

REFLECTION

i think this assignment is very interesting as scrap booking or journal making is something that I was fond of and the process of making and finishing the travel journal was time consuming. Time management was the major issue when I was in the process of compiling all the pictures for printing purposes. It also consist of much research and organisation of the journal. Overall, this assignment made me realized that travel journal needs much time to do it.

On the first day of prejury, I showed my idea layout of the overall travel journal, by dividing them into three parts and also research on the aspects which are architectural, historical and social aspect. By doing that, I was more clear on the direction that I was going for and be consistent on the content of my travel journal. The reason I chose Ipoh as my site is because it is my parent's hometown and I visit there almost every three months. I was familiar with the surrounding of the place and there are many unique and special aspects to look at there. I did not choose to go to a place which I am unfamiliar with because to understand the surroundings of a place, it takes more than one trip. Moreover, this travel journal is easier to be done if I am more familiar with the place. After visiting Ipoh in the state of Perak, I started with compiling all the pictures into different categories. I printed some pictures to use as an example for the second prejury. The comments from the second prejury were to put in more description and differentiate each aspect with different pictures. The positive comment that was given to me is that I had a clear direction in producing this travel journal. I was quite excited to produce my first travel journal.

In this assignment, I took the chance to make the travel journal with varies materials, for example, fancy wooden clips, golden card, plastic sheet, stickers, and colour papers. With an appropriate A5 size travel journal it is easier to work with the space.There are many things to consider while producing the travel journal, for example space composition, cutting and pasting, scrapbooking skills, and also researching skills. It is challenging to do something that I have never did before. I started with researching on the common travel journals that can be found on the Internet and I used that as a reference. It wasn't as difficult as other assignments as it is much more personal and independent experience for this travel journal. I saved up a lot of time in researching for details and put more effort in decorating the travel journal. Overall, I enjoyed doing the travel journal and finishing up before the deadline.
