INTRODUCTION

I have been always thinking of site visits and it’s only been three weeks since I started my foundation programme and we have a trip??
This trip is held at 19th February 2016 to 21st February 2016 to Taman Negara in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. It is designed to to allow the students to experience nature and as to fulfil ENBE Project One which the students need to study, explore and observe the natural habitat. In this trip, there are fun-filled activities that are held during the trip which gives us an ultimate experience in the tropical rainforest.

Itinerary

day 1

During the planning of this trip, we are all separated into three kingdoms, and each kingdom has it’s own king, who acts like a leader.

We started the day one with exhilarating sunrise at 7.30a.m. where we departed at 7.30 a.m. sharp to Taman Negara, it took us about 4 hours just to get to our destination. It was a tough journey to start off with as the schedule planned was delayed much later. We even stopped by Rest & Relax area near Genting Highlands for a rest and had our breakfast, McDonald’s there. Once we reached Taman Negara, we had our lunch at the River View Mini Mart. Then, we unpacked our stuff and arrived at the bank of the river, Sungai Terisik. There, we sat the boat ride to Lata Berkohto have our next activity. For the activity, we had 15 minutes to build our raft for our own “king” to cross the river. I was in the team TAY TARIK (TAY stands for Taylor’s). We were delighted as our raft was stable and we even won first place among other “kingdoms”.

After that, we returned back to the hostel to get a change of clothes. Right after dinner, we had a night walk which gives us the experience of seeing different animals and insects that lives in the tropical rainforest. We were only lucky to see some unusual insects, but not wildlife animals, whereas there are a few coursemates who got the chance to see a tapir.
Day 2

The jungle trekking starts right after breakfast. The trek took around 4 hours to finish which includes the world’s longest canopy walk of 530m and 40m above ground. We had a scrumptious lunch at Taman Negara Floating Restaurant. We then proceed to another activity which is Rapid Shooting along Sungai Tembeling on the way to the indigenous people or better known by locals as the Orang Asli Village. Rapid Shooting was an activity that I had never experienced before. From getting wet to shaky boat rides, it was more exciting as it was all with friends. We looked at the nomadic lifestyle of the indigenous people and experience the survival ways like bamboo hunting and making fire.

At night, we had a special performance night plus games. Each “kingdom” has to come up with a performance. Before dinner is served, there is a rehearsal for the performance. The special performance was arranged as following, Team Kangkung, Team TAY TARIK and the last one Team Carmen Rider. Games like charades with strings and draw & guess game was played. Team Kangkung was the final winner at last.

Conclusion

Overall we had much fun in exploring the wonders in the tropical rainforest. I learnt many things that can be implemented and remembered in our daily lives like conserving the nature for the society and many more. I regretted not having a thorough discussion with the group before going to Taman Negara as we did not get to discuss much on the assignment after the visit.

Reflection

Through this site visit to Taman Negara, I learnt
-
To be observant about the surrounding flora and fauna that will bring into consideration of the built environment.
-
To determine and acknowledge the negative impacts that will bring to the nature once it is exploited.
-
To explore on the elements of the nature and not to destroy it because it has many values in protecting them in its suitable environment.
